What is the difference between an asset and an asset type?

Updated by Chris Storms

An asset is based on an asset type (a template), but with the concrete properties of this specific asset filled in.

Whereas in an asset type you indicate which properties can be entered in which formats, in an actual assets you fill in these properties.
